This is from Uruguay, on the way to Cabo Polonia, a small beach town in Uruguay with NO electricity or hot water, a hippy town that can only be reached by these giant trucks that cross sand dunes….it’s insane, magical and surreal. The town is on the point overlooking the ocean, covered with tiny houses that are somewhat shack, somewhat playhouse, and insanely beautiful. The light is special, so calm, and there are lots of horses. When I went there with Sachi, we ended up losing our rental car keys in the sand (I had the genius idea of burying them while we swam in the ocean). Our night turned into quite a ridiculous adventure- sleeping on the ground with borrowed hippy blankets, eating food generously given to us by the local restaurant owners (because of course we had ALSO run out of money). Sachi was veeeery pleased with me for having lost the keys. When we woke up in the early grey opaque morning (after a walk on the beach where we saw a very attractive and tan couple having sex under a makeshift sleeping bag ON A MATTRESS,ON THE SAND), we took the giant dune truck back to the rental where a Uruguayan version of AAA (i.e. a man from the rental place) came to the rescue. He was also very pleased. But in the end, I was actually very pleased. Because it was such an adventure.
